Give Some Blood, Get Free Movie Tickets PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 29 August 2007

With blood in short supply, an American Red Cross chapter is offering free movie tickets and a chance to attend the Daytona 500 to entice people to donate.

Blood supplies typically drop during the summer as donors go on vacation and schools and colleges that host blood drives are closed, said Wendy Bunner, blood and volunteer coordinator for the Berkeley County chapter of the Red Cross.

To ease the shortage, the chapter decided to offer incentives to attract donors, she said.

"Incentives like this are regionally controlled, depending on supply," Bunner said.

Gary Guell, who donated blood in Martinsburg on Tuesday, said he appreciated the movie ticket but he gives blood to support the program.

As of Friday, the Greater Alleghenies Region of the Red Cross reported shortages of all blood types in its coverage area, which includes parts of Kentucky, Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Virginia
